Welcome to North Star Guitars.
We are a small guitar shop, building handcrafted guitars and basses. We
specialize in our new design concept dome top acoustic guitars, and our tuned
fork neck-through-body acoustic/electric and hybrid electric guitars.
Since we are guitarmakers, we build everything from hollow body acoustics,
to solid body electrics.
Our dome top acoustic guitars are basically a thinner topped archtop with a flat
top guitar's fixed type bridge, making them a 'hybrid' design. Fixed bridges
torque as they are driven by the strings, instead of just being driven vertically
as in a floating bridge and tailpiece type design. This results in more string
energy being imparted to the guitar's top, for a much richer, fuller sound, with a
strong fundamental, and full of wonderful overtones. In addition, using f-holes
for this type of guitar as in an archtop, lets more of the guitar top's area
resonate, and more efficiently resonates the air inside the body.
We offer new and innovative designs in our acoustic, acoustic/electric and
electric instruments, like our radical design 'tuned fork' neck-through-body
acoustic/electric guitars, and hybrid electric guitars. Our tuned fork neck
guitars, all utilize our low-mass pinless bridge design.
In addition to our guitars, we also build two models of electric basses.
All of our electric guitars and basses are built using neck-through-body
construction, resulting in increased sustain, and incredible tone.
Our luthiers and guitarmakers also build several 'traditional' acoustic guitar
designs, from auditorium size, to dreadnoughts. All of our flat top acoustic
guitars are built using forward-shifted X-bracing.
All of our handcrafted acoustic guitars, electric guitars and electric basses, are
made exclusively from the finest solid tonewoods and materials from North
America and abroad. All of our guitars are built using tap tuned methods, and
are finished in high gloss, hand rubbed, nitrocellulose lacquer.
We also offer our made-in-house onboard EFP 2 preamps that we use in our
acoustic/electric and hybrid electric guitars. It is available on our electric guitar
page.
Our instruments are purpose-built guitars, made for the working guitarist.
